Edit Gnome is a native macOS app. It works on your device, with your files. That's it.
Last updated: April 2026
Edit Gnome does not collect, transmit, or store any personal data. Your documents never leave your Mac. We don't have servers. We don't have accounts. We don't have analytics inside the app. You are not a product.
Edit Gnome collects nothing. The app has no telemetry, no usage tracking, no crash reporting that phones home, and no analytics of any kind.
Your markdown files, documents, and any content you create or open in Edit Gnome remain entirely on your local device at all times.
Edit Gnome reads and writes files on your Mac only. Documents are stored wherever you choose to save them — on your local drive, an external drive, or a cloud sync folder you manage yourself (such as iCloud Drive or Dropbox). Edit Gnome does not access, upload, or sync your files to any server we operate.
When you purchase Edit Gnome, the transaction is handled by our payment processor. We receive only what is necessary to issue and validate your license key — typically your email address. This information is used solely to deliver and support your license and is never sold or shared with third parties.
License validation occurs on your device. The app checks your key locally and does not send your documents or any usage data as part of this process.
Edit Gnome checks for updates by fetching a small XML file from our release server. This request includes no personal data — only a standard HTTP request to check the current version number. No identifying information about you, your device, or your documents is sent.
The Edit Gnome marketing website (editgnome.com) may use standard web analytics to understand aggregate visitor traffic — things like page views and referral sources. This data is anonymized and not linked to any individual. No cookies are used for advertising or cross-site tracking purposes.
Edit Gnome is a general-purpose productivity application. We do not knowingly collect any information from children under the age of 13. Because Edit Gnome collects no personal data from any user, this applies equally to all users regardless of age.
Edit Gnome does not integrate with or send data to any third-party services. There are no embedded trackers, advertising SDKs, or social media integrations in the app.
Because Edit Gnome does not collect or transmit your data, there is no server-side data to secure. Your documents are protected by whatever security measures you have in place on your own Mac — FileVault, account passwords, and so on.
If we ever change this privacy policy in a meaningful way, we'll update the date at the top of this page. We don't anticipate material changes because the core principle — we don't collect your data — isn't something we plan to change.
